Luke 5:17-26
When four friends tore through a stranger’s roof to bring their paralyzed companion to Jesus, they acted not in recklessness but in faith. Luke 5:17–26 tells the story of a desperate man, determined friends, and a Savior whose authority reaches beyond the physical into the eternal. Surrounded by skeptics and religious leaders, Jesus revealed a truth that shook the room — He alone has the power to forgive sins. The crowd came expecting healing; they witnessed divine authority.
Faith finds a way when obstacles arise. These friends refused to let the crowd block their path, climbing higher until their companion lay at Jesus’ feet. In that moment, Jesus looked past physical paralysis to the deeper bondage of sin and declared, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then, to confirm His authority, He commanded, “Rise, take up your bed, and go home.”
This miracle shows that restoration is not only physical but spiritual. We, too, are paralyzed by guilt and sin until we come — or are carried — to Christ. He alone has the words that lift, cleanse, and send us home rejoicing. When faith breaks through the roof, grace breaks through the heart. How might you invite Jesus to bring healing and forgiveness into the areas of your life that feel paralyzed today?
