2 Corinthians 3:7-18
Paul contrasts the fading brilliance of the old covenant with the enduring glory of the new covenant found in Christ. When Moses descended Mount Sinai, his face reflected God’s glory—but that radiance faded with time. The law, written on stone, revealed human sin and condemned, pointing to a standard we could not meet. Its purpose, however, was to guide hearts to a Savior, to show our need for mercy, and to drive us toward Christ, who alone can remove the veil that clouds our understanding.
The ministry of the Spirit surpasses that of the law, offering life where the law offered only condemnation. What once shone briefly on Moses now dwells permanently within every believer through God’s Spirit. This unfading glory grows brighter as we behold Christ in His Word. The veil of unbelief is lifted, confusion gives way to clarity, and the weight of condemnation is replaced by peace and freedom.
As we fix our gaze on Jesus—the full revelation of God’s glory—we are transformed into His image, from one degree of glory to the next. This transformation is not the product of our effort but of the Spirit’s work in us. The law, once shadowy and restrictive, is now fulfilled in grace and liberty. The glory that once faded now shines eternally in the hearts of those who belong to Christ, illuminating every aspect of life with His presence.
Are we allowing the unfading glory of Christ to transform our hearts, or are we still looking to the fading shadows of the past for guidance and security?
