Hebrews 6:13-20
Life has a way of shaking our confidence. Promises are broken, people fail us, and even those we love most can let us down. Over time, we may build walls around our hearts, trust less, and even feel our faith in God waver. The readers of Hebrews experienced this same struggle—religion without relationship, ritual without rest, losing sight of the One who never fails.
Hebrews 6:13–20 reminds us that our hope is anchored not in human promises, but in the unchanging character of God. He confirmed His Word with an oath, swearing by Himself because there is none greater. Like Abraham, who believed when the promise seemed impossible, we find assurance that God’s promises are certain. Two unchangeable things—His promise and His oath—become the immovable anchors of our souls, securing us in every trial.
The imagery is striking: our hope is “an anchor within the veil.” Just as an anchor keeps a ship from drifting in a storm, our faith is fastened to Christ, who has already entered God’s presence on our behalf. He is our Forerunner and High Priest, securing our place in glory. When life’s storms rise and the waves threaten to overwhelm, the anchor holds firm. Our security is not in shifting circumstances, but in the hands of God Himself. How might it change the way you face challenges to remember that your hope is anchored in the eternal, unshakable God? How can we trust Him more fully, knowing He holds us securely through every storm?
