Luke 17:1-10
In this passage, Jesus delivers a series of profound instructions on discipleship, calling His followers to live with humility, vigilance, and faith. Life in a fallen world brings temptations and stumbling blocks, yet we are warned not to be the cause of another’s fall. Leading a fellow believer astray, especially someone new in faith, carries grave consequences—reminding us that our words, actions, and influence carry eternal weight.
At the heart of these instructions is the call to confront sin with love, forgive repeatedly, and walk in dependence on God’s power. Pride blinds and hardens the heart, but faith rooted in Christ enables forgiveness that flows beyond human limits. The apostles’ plea, “Lord, increase our faith,” reflects the awareness that such grace and endurance are impossible apart from God’s strength. True discipleship is not measured by perfection, but by the willingness to serve, forgive, and walk humbly with God.
Jesus concludes with a striking reminder: a servant does not boast in fulfilling his duty but serves faithfully because it is his calling. Likewise, our obedience does not earn God’s favor; it is the natural response to His love already poured out in Christ. These final instructions call us to a life of humility, steadfast faith, and wholehearted devotion—revealing that true freedom, holiness, and joy are found not in self-exaltation, but in surrender to the Lord we serve.
