Luke 16:19-31
In “The View from Eternity,” Luke 16:19–31 invites us to step beyond the limits of time and glimpse what awaits beyond this life. Jesus tells the sobering story of the rich man and Lazarus: one lived in luxury, self-assured and indulgent, while the other suffered in poverty, longing for mere crumbs. When both entered eternity, everything was reversed. Lazarus was carried into Abraham’s bosom, embraced by angels, while the rich man faced torment, fully aware and filled with regret.
This passage is not simply about wealth or poverty—it is a profound warning about the eternal consequences of unbelief. Every soul faces a fixed destiny after death. No status, heritage, or good deed can bridge the chasm between heaven and hell. Only faith in Christ, the Lamb pierced for our sins, secures salvation and eternal life. The story compels us to examine the foundation of our hope and the reality of our choices.
The rich man’s desperate pleas for his brothers echo through the ages, yet Abraham’s response endures: “They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.” God’s Word is sufficient, but do we believe it? As we reflect on eternity, the pressing question remains: when your final breath comes, from which side of eternity will you see?
