1 Corinthians 16:1-4
In 1 Corinthians 16:1–4, the Apostle Paul guides believers from the heights of resurrection hope to the practical expression of love: giving. Following the powerful truths of chapter 15, he reminds us that faith in Christ’s return must flow into tangible care for His people. Heavenly hope naturally leads to earthly generosity.
Paul encourages the Corinthians to view their offering for the struggling saints in Jerusalem not as a mere obligation but as a spiritual privilege. Famine and persecution had left many in need, and Gentile churches were invited to share in their suffering through joyful, sacrificial giving. Such generosity was more than charity—it was an act of unity, connecting God’s family across distance and circumstance.
Giving is an act of worship. It should never arise from guilt, pressure, or public expectation, but from a heart filled with gratitude toward the Lord. Every believer is called to set aside a portion “as God prospers,” giving consistently, cheerfully, and thoughtfully. The true measure of stewardship is not the size of the gift, but the spirit in which it is offered. God delights in the cheerful giver—one who gives out of joy, faith, and love, not obligation or fear.
Even in something as practical as a collection, Paul shows that every act of giving can glorify Christ, strengthen His church, and point others to the cross. How might your generosity today reflect the love of the One who gave Himself for you?
