Matthew 22:1-14
Jesus illustrates eternity with the parable of the wedding feast, revealing the heart of God as a loving Father inviting all to His table. The King prepares a banquet for His Son, extending invitations of grace to everyone, yet many refuse. Some are indifferent, preoccupied with their own lives; others are hostile, rejecting the messengers. Still, God’s mercy continues, calling anyone who will come—both the good and the overlooked—to join His house. This divine invitation demonstrates that His heart longs for fellowship, forgiveness, and eternal joy.
Yet the parable also warns that entrance to the feast requires more than mere attendance. One guest is cast out for failing to wear the proper garment of righteousness, showing that self-righteousness cannot earn a place at the King’s table. True worthiness comes only through being clothed in Christ, wrapped in His righteousness. This banquet is not for the proud or self-sufficient, but for the repentant and those who hunger and thirst for grace. God’s feast is a gift, extended freely, yet it demands a response of faith and humility.
This invitation, this “Table for Two,” is for every heart willing to say yes. Christ calls us not only to dine but to dwell with Him, to participate in His kingdom here and now. The feast is ready, the invitation has been sent—will you come? How might you respond today to the call of God’s grace, and in what ways can you prepare your heart to enter His presence fully clothed in Christ’s righteousness?
