Psalm 11:1-7
When David declared, “In the Lord I take refuge,” he wasn’t speaking from comfort but from chaos. His world was shaking, his enemies advancing, and even his closest friends urged him to flee. Yet rather than run from danger, David ran to God. In the midst of fear, he chose faith — not faith in favorable circumstances, but in the unchanging strength of the Lord who still reigns from His throne. His eyes were fixed not on the arrows that flew in the night, but on the One who sees, tests, and upholds the righteous.
This psalm reminds us that faith is proven not in times of ease, but in the storm. When the foundations of life seem to crumble, when evil appears to prevail, the people of God are called to stand firm in their refuge. The fires that threaten to consume us are the very flames God uses to refine us. Like David, we can trust that the Lord’s sovereignty is not shaken by the world’s instability. He tests His children, not to destroy them, but to purify and strengthen their trust in Him.
Even when fear whispers “run,” faith replies “rest.” The God who sustained David still holds His people today. Our refuge is not a place but a Person — Christ Himself, our unshakable shelter. One day, all trembling will cease, and those who take refuge in Him will behold His face in everlasting peace. When the world around you shakes, remember, the throne of God does not. Take shelter in Him, and you will stand secure.
