Acts 1:12-26
In the moments between Christ’s ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the early disciples faced a critical decision—how to continue the work of God after Judas’ betrayal and death. “Finding the Right Man” reminds us that God’s plans are never thwarted by human failure. Though Judas’ treachery left a gap among the apostles, it also set the stage for God’s sovereign provision. The disciples did not act on impulse or personal preference; they prayed, sought God’s guidance, and submitted to Scripture, trusting that the Lord would reveal the one He had prepared.
Peter’s words to the gathered believers emphasize that even painful events serve God’s greater purpose. By turning to prayer and relying on divine wisdom, the disciples allowed God to guide their choice. In His providence, Matthias was selected—a man whose quiet faith and steadfast devotion had readied him for this moment of service. His appointment underscores a profound truth: God equips those He calls, often in ways unseen until the right time.
For believers today, this passage serves as a reminder that our lives are not a series of random events. God appoints, calls, and prepares us for roles that advance His kingdom. Our part is to remain faithful, prayerful, and surrendered, trusting that He will place us exactly where we are needed. Like Matthias, we are chosen not for our prominence or strength, but for our willingness to follow God’s will. Are we ready to step into the places He has prepared for us, even when the path is quiet and unseen?
