Colossians 2:16-23
This message explores the difference between light and shadow, illustrating how rituals, rules, and human traditions can sometimes distract from the true substance of faith. Paul reminds the believers in Colossae that practices meant to point to Christ—festivals, Sabbaths, and dietary laws—were never intended to replace Him. Now that the Light has come, we are called to step out of shadows and embrace the reality of Jesus Himself.
Like Uzzah, who reached out to steady the Ark and faced consequences for ignoring God’s command, we too risk spiritual harm when our worship drifts from truth into mere tradition. Paul urges the church—and us—to remain rooted in Christ, the Head, who alone provides life, growth, and grace. True spirituality is not measured by self-denial or ritual, but by a vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus.
Living in Christ means walking in the radiance of His truth, free from the illusions of human wisdom and false religion. Shadows served their purpose, but now the Substance has come. How might you step into the light of genuine faith today, resting in what Jesus has done rather than clinging to the outlines of the past?
