John 1:38-51
Jesus never sought the mighty, the famous, or the flawless to carry out His mission—He chose ordinary people with hearts open to transformation. In this passage, we witness the calling of Andrew, Peter, Philip, and Nathanael, men who were far from perfect yet fully receptive to Jesus’ invitation. They were seekers, not scholars; humble, yet ready to follow the One who would change their lives forever.
Christ continues to build His team today, inviting those willing to follow Him into a life of purpose and transformation. When He asked, “What do you seek?” He wasn’t speaking only to two men by the Jordan River—He is speaking to every heart longing to know Him. His call is always personal: “Come and see,” to walk with Him, to learn from Him, and to discover the life He intends for us.
Through the example of the first disciples, we see that Jesus not only saw who they were, but who they could become. Impulsiveness was shaped into steadfastness, skepticism into faith, and ordinary lives into instruments of divine purpose. This same Lord continues to shape, guide, and empower those who respond to His call. How might you answer today? Will you step into His invitation, allowing Him to transform your weaknesses into strength and uncertainty into unwavering faith?
