Galatians 4:1-11
There comes a moment in every believer’s journey when faith matures—a turning point where childhood understanding grows into a deeper, personal knowing of Christ. In Galatians 4:1–11, Paul draws a vivid picture of this transformation: once like children under guardians and rules, bound by rituals and earthly principles, we are now, through Christ, set free as sons and daughters of God.
Before the coming of Christ, humanity lived under the weight of the law, learning through discipline and consequence. Like children waiting for the day appointed by their father, we were guided by tutors and managers. But at the fullness of time, God sent His Son—born of a woman, born under the law—to redeem us from slavery to sin and religion. Through His obedience and sacrifice, we were adopted into God’s family, receiving the inheritance of grace and belonging.
Now the Spirit of His Son dwells within us, crying out, “Abba, Father.” No longer slaves who fear, we are heirs who belong. Yet Paul’s words carry a caution: why return to the shadows of old rituals once we have come of age? Why cling to legalism or spiritual infancy when the reality—Christ Himself—has arrived?
To grow in grace is to step confidently into the full inheritance of faith, letting the Spirit guide us beyond the classroom of the law. The question remains for every believer today: are you still living as a servant under rules, or have you embraced your true identity as an heir of the King, walking in freedom, purpose, and the fullness of His love?
