Acts 16:6-18
Acts 16:6–18 reveals how God’s timing shapes His work in ways we cannot always see. As Paul, Silas, Timothy, and Luke traveled across Asia Minor, their plans were clear, but the Spirit repeatedly redirected them. What seemed like delays were in fact divine guidance, preparing the way for the first gospel mission to Europe. Through a vision of a man from Macedonia crying out, “Come over and help us,” God set in motion events that would change the course of history.
Waiting on God is never wasted. Sitting on the shores of Troas, uncertain of their next step, the team’s obedience led to the salvation of Lydia, whose heart became a gateway for the Philippian church. Even amid opposition — a slave girl tormented by a demonic spirit — the power of Jesus prevailed, demonstrating that God’s work cannot be thwarted. Each event, each moment of waiting, was part of a greater plan.
This passage reminds us that God’s “no” is often preparation for His better “yes.” He orchestrates every detail of our lives with perfect wisdom, opening the right doors, guiding us to the right people, and moving at the perfect moment. How might your perspective on waiting change if you trusted that God’s timing is always perfect and never delayed?
