Acts 8:25-40
We witness one of Scripture’s most remarkable divine appointments in the story of Philip and the Ethiopian. As the gospel spread from Jerusalem into Judea and Samaria, God directed Philip away from a thriving ministry to a lonely desert road. From a human perspective, it made no sense—but in that barren place, God had prepared a heart ready to receive truth. The Ethiopian, a high-ranking court official, had wealth, power, and prestige, yet he lacked peace with God. Sitting in his chariot, reading Isaiah 53, he longed to understand the identity of the suffering servant.
God sent Philip with perfect timing. Led by the Spirit, Philip approached the chariot, explained the Scriptures, and proclaimed Jesus—the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. The Ethiopian responded with faith, confessed Jesus as the Son of God, and was baptized right there in the desert. He went on his way rejoicing, transformed by the gospel. Through one man’s obedience and another’s seeking heart, God’s Word reached across nations and continues to echo through history.
This story reminds us that no place is too remote, no person too distant, and no heart too hidden for God to reach. He orchestrates every encounter, sees every seeker, and calls His people to share His saving grace faithfully. Salvation is personal, the gospel is for everyone, and joy follows those who believe. How might you be used today to bring God’s truth to someone searching for hope?
