Luke 18:18-30
Jesus encounters a young man who asks the most profound question anyone can ask: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Though wealthy, respected, and disciplined, his heart feels empty, longing for peace with God on his own terms. When Jesus explained that true discipleship requires surrender—releasing whatever holds our hearts captive—the man walked away, weighed down by sorrow.
How often do we respond the same way? The world encourages us to seek security through wealth, status, or achievements, but Jesus teaches that these cannot secure eternal life. He warned, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” What seems impossible for us is made possible through God’s grace alone. Salvation is never earned by effort or morality—it is received through wholehearted devotion to Him.
This story goes beyond money; it is about misplaced trust. Jesus does not demand poverty but calls for complete devotion. He invites us to release whatever competes with Him for our loyalty. For those who follow, the reward is immeasurable: eternal life and intimate fellowship with Christ. True riches are found not in what we hold onto, but in what we surrender to God. When He asks for your heart, will you let go and follow, or walk away like the young ruler?
