Hebrews 7:1-10
Sometimes the most profound truths of God are revealed in fleeting encounters. One such moment appears in Scripture when Abraham meets Melchizedek—a king and priest whose brief appearance carries eternal significance. In a world scarred by conflict, corruption, and human ambition, this unexpected meeting occurs after Abraham rescues his nephew and recovers what had been taken. In the valley of blessing, he encounters a figure whose name means “peace” and whose title declares “righteousness.” Melchizedek brings not conquest, but blessing, offering bread and wine—symbols that point forward to the eternal table of our Lord. Abraham responds with worship, giving a tenth of all he possesses, modeling humility and reverence.
Though brief, this meeting illuminates the heart of Christ. Like Melchizedek, Jesus is a priest not defined by earthly lineage, whose ministry extends beyond death and whose intercession never ceases. Through Him, righteousness and peace meet, offering a glimpse of God’s eternal plan to reconcile, restore, and bless. Even in the midst of battles, God draws back the curtain of heaven to show glimpses of His Son, inviting hearts to recognize His presence, bow in worship, and give Him their best.
Reflect on your own valleys—those moments of tension, struggle, or uncertainty. Could these spaces become encounters with Christ, where His peace and righteousness meet you? How might offering Him your “firstfruits” of time, talent, or treasure transform not only your perspective but the world around you? Every act of surrender opens the door to divine blessing.
