Psalm 99:1-9
In a world dominated by fear — fear of disease, conflict, and the unknown — one fear is often overlooked: the fear of the Lord. Psalm 99 calls us to remember that God reigns supremely, holy and righteous, deserving of reverent awe. This divine fear is not terror that drives us away, but a trembling that draws us closer, inviting intimacy with the Creator who rules with justice and mercy.
The psalm paints a picture of God enthroned above the cherubim, where angels proclaim, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.” His authority and holiness set the standard for all creation, yet His mercy reaches to those who seek Him. Just as He listened to Moses, Aaron, and Samuel — intercessors who stood in the gap — He hears our prayers today, drawing near to those who call upon His name with humble hearts.
This passage challenges believers to examine how we approach God. Are we mindful of His majesty and justice? Do we honor Him with sincere worship and reverent trust? Psalm 99 reminds us that standing before a holy God is only possible through Christ, the one mediator between God and humanity. Let us bow in thankful reverence, letting worship flow from hearts awakened to His holiness, trusting that the Lord alone is worthy of our fear, our devotion, and our praise. How might your life reflect this holy awe in everyday moments?
