1 Peter 5:1-14
Peter closes his letter with a shepherd’s heart, speaking tenderly to those called to shepherd others and reminding all believers of the care of the Chief Shepherd. We are, by nature, wandering sheep, unable to guide or protect ourselves. Yet in His mercy, God raises leaders to feed, guide, and guard His flock. Their work is weighty, their responsibility sacred, and their accountability eternal. And yet, Peter assures us that the reward is not of this world. When Christ returns, those who serve with humility and devotion will receive an unfading crown of glory, a reward that will never wither or fade.
This passage calls not only leaders but every follower of Christ to live under the mighty hand of God. We are to cast every care upon Him, stand firm against the enemy, and serve faithfully, even in hardship. Our trials are not wasted; they are shaping us for eternal bloom. The Shepherd sees our struggles, lifts us when we fall, strengthens us in weariness, and anchors us when life feels unsteady. In His care, every act of faith and perseverance is a seed of everlasting beauty.
When Christ appears, all suffering will be replaced by glory. We will shine brilliantly, untouchable and eternal, in the fullness of His presence. Until that day, let us serve with humility, resist with unwavering faith, and rest securely in the care of the Shepherd who never fails. How might we live today in a way that reflects His faithful guidance and prepares us for the crown He promises?
