1 Corinthians 1:26-2:5
God’s standards of greatness are often the opposite of the world’s. While society measures worth by wealth, power, or intellect, He values humility, faith, and surrender. In Corinth, believers needed to remember that their calling came not from their own abilities, but from God’s sovereign choice. He delights in using the overlooked, the weak, and the ordinary to reveal His extraordinary wisdom and power.
Paul encourages every believer to consider their calling carefully. Many in Corinth were neither influential nor noble, yet each had been chosen by grace. God’s strength shines brightest in our weakness. When we cease boasting in ourselves and boast only in the Lord, glory is returned where it belongs — to Him. Christ embodies wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption; every gift in Him flows from grace, not human effort.
Paul exemplified this truth. Preaching in Corinth, he relied not on eloquence or clever arguments, but on the Spirit’s power, presenting nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The gospel rests on divine power, not human wisdom. True understanding begins where pride ends — at the foot of the cross. If you feel inadequate or unimportant, remember that God often uses what the world deems foolish to confound the wise. How might your life reflect His power today when you embrace humility and faith over worldly measures of success?
