John 11:38-46
The tomb of Lazarus stood sealed and silent, a stark reminder of death’s final claim. Four days had passed, hope had faded, and despair had settled over the mourners. Yet into that hopelessness stepped Jesus—not as one bound by death, but as the Master of life and resurrection. With His voice, filled with divine authority, He shattered the stillness and called forth what seemed impossible. “Lazarus, come forth!” Life returned, the grave surrendered, and God’s glory was revealed.
Before the miracle unfolded, faith was tested. Martha’s hesitation mirrors our own doubts when situations feel beyond repair. Jesus’ words still echo today: “Did I not say that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” The resurrection of Lazarus calls us to trust beyond what we see, to look past human impossibilities, and to rest in the power of Christ who gives life where there was death. This story isn’t just history—it’s a living reminder that God’s authority breaks every barrier, opens every tomb, and transforms every heart.
For believers, Lazarus’ story is both a promise and a pattern. The same voice that called him forth will one day call all who belong to Christ from the grave. We are “fourth day people”—once bound by sin, now alive in the glory of God. The grave could not hold Lazarus, and sin cannot hold those redeemed by Jesus. How does this miracle challenge your understanding of life, hope, and resurrection? What tomb in your life is Jesus calling you to step out of today?
