2 Corinthians 6:11-18
There are seasons when our hearts feel too heavy to carry—when betrayal, loss, or disappointment leaves us questioning if joy will ever return. Yet even in those moments, God’s presence is near. In this passage, Paul reminds us that brokenness is not abandonment. Rather, it is an invitation to draw closer to the heart of Christ, who understands every wound and transforms our pain into purpose.
Paul’s own heart had been pierced by those he had faithfully shepherded—believers in Corinth who had turned away, influenced by false teachers. Instead of bitterness, he responds with vulnerability and love: “Our mouth has spoken freely to you… our heart is open wide.” This openness models the way Christ calls us to live—wounded, yet still reaching, still offering compassion and forgiveness. Even amid disappointment, our hearts can continue to beat with love, echoing the mercy we have received from God.
At the same time, Paul issues a reminder of holiness: love for God and fellowship with the world cannot coexist. “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers… Come out from among them and be separate.” It is in this separation that healing and restoration flourish. As God draws near, He mends what is broken, purifies what is stained, and restores our hearts so they beat in rhythm with His eternal love.
Reflect on your own journey of faith: where might God be calling you to release what is false, to open your heart wider, or to trust Him in the midst of pain? Even in brokenness, He offers restoration, transforming our sorrow into strength and our grief into a deeper experience of His grace.
