Matthew 26:6-13
In a quiet home in Bethany, an act of devotion changed the atmosphere forever. A woman approached the Savior, carrying a jar filled with precious perfume. Without hesitation, she broke it open, letting the fragrant offering flow over Him in an act of worship that cost her everything. The room was filled with aroma, a tangible sign of a heart fully surrendered and a love poured out without reservation.
Not everyone understood. Some murmured, judging her choice as wasteful, blinded by their own calculations and pride. Yet Jesus saw what they could not: the beauty of a soul emptied for His glory. The fragrance of her devotion became a lasting testimony, reminding us that true worship is measured not by expense or recognition, but by the depth of our surrender. What may appear extravagant or foolish to the world often becomes eternal in God’s eyes.
This encounter challenges us to examine our own hearts. Are we willing to offer Him all that we have — our time, our resources, our very selves — in unreserved devotion? True worship calls for humility, brokenness, and the courage to lay aside personal gain or comfort. The act of breaking the jar was also the breaking of a heart fully aligned with the Savior’s presence and purpose.
As we reflect, we are invited to consider: what parts of our lives remain closed off from Christ? How might God be asking us to pour ourselves out in love, gratitude, and obedience? In surrendering fully, we discover that nothing given to Him is ever wasted, and every act of worship echoes beyond the room into eternity.
