Genesis 3:8-15
We encounter both the weight of sin and the first glimmer of redemption in the story of Adam and Eve. After their rebellion, they hid—ashamed, fearful, and separated from the God who had once walked with them in the garden. Sin brought guilt and alienation, yet even in judgment, God’s mercy was at work. When He calls, “Where are you?” it is not condemnation but grace reaching into the heart of the fallen, pursuing reconciliation and restoration.
This passage shows God confronting sin directly. The serpent is cursed, and humanity must face the consequences of disobedience. Yet within that moment of divine justice arises a profound promise—the first gospel. The declaration that the seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head, even as His own heel is bruised, points forward to Christ, who would conquer sin, Satan, and death through His sacrifice. The curse brought ruin, but the cure was already unfolding in God’s plan.
Even today, our sin can drive us to hide, yet God continues to seek us. The crawling serpent reminds us of the enemy’s defeat, and the cross reveals the victory of our Redeemer. In the darkest moments of human history, God planted the seed of hope, offering salvation through Jesus Christ, who will ultimately triumph over all evil. How does this first promise of redemption inspire your trust in God’s ongoing work in your life?
