1 Corinthians 15:35-49
Paul addresses some of life’s deepest and most haunting questions: What happens when we die? Will our bodies rise again? What will we be like in eternity? These questions echo the cry of Job, “If a man dies, will he live again?” The answer Paul gives is both stunning and comforting: yes, we will rise, but not as we are now. The same God who breathed life into dust will one day transform the perishable into the imperishable, the weak into the powerful, and the earthly into the heavenly.
Paul uses the vivid image of a seed to explain this transformation. A seed must fall and die before new life can emerge. In the same way, our fragile, temporary bodies are sown in weakness but raised in glory. God, who sustains all creation—from the stars in the sky to creatures of the sea—is more than able to give us new, glorified bodies designed for eternal life. These bodies will never decay, grow old, or fail; they will radiate the glory of the risen Christ.
Born in the image of Adam, made of dust and destined to return to it, we will, in Christ—the last Adam—bear the image of the heavenly. The body that once knew pain will know perfection. The heart that once feared death will rejoice in eternal life. Death is not the end, but the doorway to transformation. Those who belong to Christ will rise in His likeness, to worship, serve, and glorify Him forever. How does this promise of eternal transformation change the way you live today?
