2 Corinthians 5:9-14
In the midst of criticism, misunderstanding, and even slander, Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 5:9–14 resonate across the centuries: “We make it our ambition to be pleasing to the Lord.” Faced with unjust accusations in Corinth, he could have defended himself with anger or pride, but instead he anchored his life and ministry in the approval of God alone. Human opinions fade, but the evaluation of our hearts and deeds before Christ endures forever.
Paul’s example challenges every believer who has been misrepresented or judged unfairly. The fear of the Lord—a holy awe that guides our thoughts and actions—supersedes the fleeting praise or condemnation of people. Our ultimate audience is God, and every word, every act, every decision is weighed against His eternal standard. Living for divine approval, not human acceptance, transforms the sting of criticism into a call for faithfulness and integrity.
Love for Christ constrained Paul, shaping his motives, guiding his words, and sustaining him through opposition. His ambition was not self-glory, but the glory of God. This devotion invites us to examine our own hearts: are we motivated by applause, or by awe and love for the Savior? Can we endure misunderstanding with grace, knowing that the final review belongs to Him?
May we, like Paul, prioritize pleasing the Lord above all else. When the world judges harshly or misunderstands, may we stand firm, confident that one day His words, “Well done,” will outweigh every human opinion. How can you let God’s approval guide your decisions today?
