2 Corinthians 8:10-17
There is a reason the phrase “better late than never” still resonates today — it reflects God’s mercy toward those who delay but eventually obey. In 2 Corinthians 8:10–17, Paul gently encourages the believers in Corinth to finish what they started. They had begun generously in supporting the church in Jerusalem, but zeal waned, distractions came, and their effort faltered. Yet Paul does not rebuke them; he reminds them that it is never too late to act on a willing heart.
Faithfulness is tested not only in starting well but in continuing steadfastly. Giving, like all acts of obedience, is measured by the heart rather than the quantity. God delights in a cheerful spirit, in obedience motivated by love rather than compulsion. Paul emphasizes that generosity strengthens the body of Christ, balancing needs across the church and ensuring that resources flow where God intends. Just as manna in the wilderness met each person’s need, so our willing obedience supports God’s provision for others.
For those of us who have begun a commitment, a calling, or a promise but have not yet completed it, this passage serves as a timely reminder: finish what you began. God values the willingness to return, to step back into obedience, and to serve wholeheartedly. Better late than never — the moment to act is now, and the reward is far greater than human recognition. Let your heart be stirred to renewed devotion and consistent faithfulness, trusting that God honors every step taken for His glory.
