Romans 4:18-25
Faith often requires us to believe when the world says it’s impossible. Abraham’s story in Romans 4 shows us that trust does not remove struggle, but sustains us through it. When everything seemed hopeless — a barren womb, an aging body, circumstances that defied logic — Abraham held fast to one truth: God can. This is the essence of the gospel. The same faith that justified Abraham continues to justify us today, reminding us that God’s power is greater than our limitations and His promises are never empty.
Salvation has never been about our performance, rituals, or efforts. Abraham received righteousness not by earning it, but by trusting the One who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist. His confidence was not in himself but in God’s character, His promises, and His power. Likewise, we are called to place our trust in the God who raised Jesus from the dead. The resurrection declares that sin’s debt is paid, the curse is broken, and the grave is empty. All that remains for us is to believe.
Abraham’s faith looked forward to the fulfillment of God’s promise; our faith looks back to the cross. Both are anchored in the unchanging truth that God keeps His word. When we trust Him, righteousness is credited, peace is restored, and eternal life becomes ours. If we only believe, we discover the same hope Abraham held — hope in hopelessness, strength in weakness, and joy in the waiting. The God who raised Christ will also raise us, inviting us to step into new life, fully trusting that His promises never fail.
