Matthew 22:23-33
Jesus faced the Sadducees, a powerful religious group who denied the resurrection, as they posed a question meant to trap and humiliate Him. Their story of seven brothers and one wife was intended to make the idea of resurrection seem absurd. Yet in His divine wisdom, Jesus revealed their misunderstanding of Scripture and their blindness to the power of God.
He reminded them—and reminds us—that earthly relationships, though sacred, belong to this world. Marriage, birth, and death are temporary; in eternity, all who belong to Christ will live transformed and glorified, like the angels. Our hope transcends the grave, anchored in the living God who declared, “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
This encounter astonished the crowds and silenced the Sadducees, offering a powerful lesson for all believers. Faith in the resurrection is not mere optimism; it is a confident trust in God’s promise and power. The same God who formed humanity from dust will one day raise His children to eternal glory, granting a future of joy, perfection, and unending life in His presence.
How does the hope of resurrection shape the way we live today? In what ways can we anchor our trust in the God who has conquered death, confident that our future is secure in Christ?
