Luke 14:25-35
Following the One who calls us is never meant to be casual or convenient. True discipleship asks for more than curiosity or admiration—it demands the surrender of everything we once clung to. The path of obedience may require us to place love for God above family, comfort, possessions, and even our own lives. This teaching reminds us that the Christian journey is a deliberate choice, one that calls us to exchange fleeting security for eternal purpose and to carry our own cross in imitation of Christ.
Through vivid illustrations of a builder and a king, we are shown that faith requires careful, intentional commitment. Counting the cost does not diminish grace—it frames it, helping us recognize that following Jesus is not a fleeting emotion or casual commitment, but a life-altering decision grounded in conviction and trust. Though the price of discipleship may feel high, the rewards of walking in alignment with God’s will surpass anything this world can offer.
Being “salt of the earth” means living in a way that preserves truth, promotes healing, and reflects God’s glory in every interaction. Yet when our devotion is diluted by compromise, our witness weakens and our influence diminishes. This passage challenges us to reflect: are we fully committed to the narrow path that leads to life, or are we holding back? How might God be calling you to count the cost and live boldly for Him today?
