Romans 6:15-23
Paul challenges us to confront a question that defines the soul: who truly rules our hearts? In a world enamored with freedom, he reveals a reality we often resist—we are all servants, either to sin, which brings death, or to Christ, who brings life. There is no neutral ground; the Master we obey reflects the true state of our hearts and the condition of our lives.
Before encountering Christ, sin held us captive. We followed our desires, obeyed fleeting passions, and walked a path leading to destruction. Yet through God’s mercy, we are set free—not to indulge ourselves, but to serve the One who redeemed us. This freedom is not rebellion; it is the gift of redemption. Our gracious Master calls us to righteousness, holiness, and the joy that comes from walking in His presence.
The fruit of sin is shame, guilt, and death, but the fruit of righteousness is sanctification—life transformed to reflect Christ’s character. To become a servant of righteousness is to surrender every thought, word, and action to the Lord who rescued us. True freedom is not doing as we please but living fully for Him. The choice is clear: serve sin and face death, or serve Christ and receive eternal life. He is the Pearl of Great Price, worth surrendering all to gain, inviting us to ask ourselves: whom will we obey, and where will our hearts truly rest?
