Acts 7:17-37
Stephen’s message in this passage reveals a timeless reality: humanity often rejects the very God who sustains and redeems us. Though God speaks through creation, His Word, and ultimately through His Son, people frequently cling to what is familiar, comfortable, or self-made. The glory of the living God is exchanged for lifeless idols, and pride blinds hearts to the truth of Christ, the Righteous One.
We see ourselves reflected in this “fool’s paradise,” where human wisdom and self-reliance take precedence over obedience and faith. Stephen’s bold witness challenges us to examine our own hearts: are we trusting in our works, our plans, or the world’s definitions of success, rather than in the transformative power of God’s grace? True worship flows from surrendered hearts, not mere ritual or tradition, and calls for humility, repentance, and courage to stand for truth.
This passage invites reflection: where might we be clinging to illusions of self-sufficiency? How can we allow God’s Word to pierce our comfort zones and redirect our worship toward Him? Even when the world resists, Christ’s light still shines, calling us out of the shadows of our own making and into a life marked by faith, surrender, and enduring truth.
