Luke 10:17-24
In a rare and radiant moment, Jesus is filled with joy as the seventy disciples return from their mission. Though often called “a Man of Sorrows,” here He celebrates not earthly victories, but the eternal reality that their names are written in heaven. True joy, He teaches, is not rooted in what we accomplish for Him, but in what He has done for us.
Our joy often rises and falls with the circumstances of life—success, recognition, or even the fruit of ministry. Yet Jesus points to a deeper, lasting joy anchored in eternity. Spiritual power, as miraculous as it may seem, cannot compare to the miracle of salvation. The greatest joy comes from knowing our sins are forgiven, our names engraved in heaven, and our lives fully loved by the God of the universe.
Jesus rejoices in the Spirit, praising the Father for revealing divine truth not to the proud or learned, but to the humble, those who receive it with childlike faith. This is the joy that endures: the joy of salvation, of belonging, and of being known by God Himself. It is a joy time cannot steal and sorrow cannot shadow. What might change in your life if your joy rested not in what you gain, but in knowing the Savior who rejoices over you with singing?
