Genesis 2:10-17
From the beginning, God designed humanity to be both workers and worshippers. In the Garden of Eden, He placed man not merely to exist, but to cultivate and care for creation. Work was intended as an act of worship, a way to reflect the character of the Creator. Every tree and river in Eden showcased God’s provision, beauty, and overflowing grace, inviting humanity to participate in His sustaining care.
Alongside blessing came a command — a test of love and obedience. Man was free to enjoy every tree except the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This choice was never about the fruit itself, but about faithfulness. From that moment, God set before humanity the same options we face today: life or death, blessing or curse, obedience or rebellion. Even in perfection, trust in God’s Word was the foundation of true life.
This teaching reminds us that our work becomes worship when it flows from hearts surrendered to God. Just as Adam was placed in a garden of abundance, we are called to care for His creation and reflect His grace in the world around us. Yet without obedience to His Word, even the most beautiful surroundings can become a wilderness. How might your daily work and worship reflect God’s design when fully submitted to Him?
