Romans 8:12-17
One of the most awe-inspiring truths in Scripture is that we have been adopted into God’s family. Once strangers, rebels, and spiritual orphans, we are now called sons and daughters of the Most High. The old life of the flesh, burdened with guilt, fear, and endless striving to earn favor, has been erased. Through Christ, we are no longer debtors to sin, but empowered by the Spirit to live in holiness and reflect the heart of our Father.
In the ancient world, adoption granted full legal standing and inheritance. Paul uses this image to show how God has redeemed us, given us a new name, and welcomed us into His eternal family. Our cries of “Abba, Father” are not those of beggars, but of beloved children embraced forever. The Spirit bears witness within, affirming our belonging and silencing every doubt and fear that tries to take root.
This divine adoption carries both privilege and purpose. As heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, we share in His glory and His sufferings. The journey toward eternal joy may pass through trials and misunderstanding, but every challenge strengthens our faith, purifies our hearts, and deepens our love. Are we living in the full confidence of our identity as God’s children? How does knowing we are fully accepted shape the way we walk in the world? The promise is certain—we are no longer strangers, but family, welcomed into the Father’s embrace forever.
