Matthew 24:1-14
From the very beginning, God’s chosen people have felt the weight of oppression and the ache of waiting. They held fast to the promises of the prophets — a Child, a Son, a Prince of Peace who would reign in righteousness forever. Yet when the Messiah came, His arrival unfolded in unexpected ways. The Deliverer first appeared as the Lamb who would bear sin, not the conquering Lion many anticipated.
On the Mount of Olives, Jesus spoke of the “birth pangs” that would signal the nearness of redemption. Deception, war, famine, persecution, betrayal, and the chilling hardness of human hearts would all cry out like creation itself groaning, yet even amidst such turmoil, His words were calm and assuring: “See that you are not frightened.” These ancient truths echo across generations, reminding believers that faithfulness is rewarded, even when the world trembles.
For those who endure, who cling to Christ, there is a promise that cannot be shaken. The Kingdom of God will come, His reign is eternal, and every trial, every pang of suffering, will give way to glory. This passage calls us to vigilance and hope, to watch and pray, trusting that the Lord who foretold history will fulfill every promise. The end for the faithful is not destruction, but deliverance, and the return of the King is sure.
