Psalm 113:1-9
Psalm 113 is a hymn that lifts the soul from earth to heaven — a song of praise to the God who reigns in majesty yet draws near in mercy. From the rising of the sun to its setting, the psalmist calls every heart to bless the name of the Lord. He is exalted above all nations, enthroned in glory beyond the heavens — and yet, He stoops down to see, to care, to raise the lowly from the dust.
This psalm reveals the breathtaking paradox of God’s character: infinite greatness joined with intimate compassion. The One who spoke galaxies into being also reaches into human weakness, lifting the poor and setting them among princes. He makes the barren fruitful, turns sorrow into song, and fills emptiness with abundance. His glory is not distant — it is displayed in His grace toward the humble.
Through Christ, the truth of Psalm 113 finds its fullest expression. The God who stoops to lift the poor has come down in the person of His Son. He raises us from spiritual poverty to the riches of grace, transforming our despair into joy and our emptiness into eternal life. Praise, then, is not a ritual but a response — the overflow of hearts redeemed by mercy.
