Acts 2:14-21
On the day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter stood before a bewildered crowd in Jerusalem, declaring a truth that would change history forever: the promised Holy Spirit had come, and the church of Jesus Christ was born. What many saw as chaos or drunkenness was actually the fulfillment of prophecy, the unfolding of God’s redemptive plan in power. Peter, filled with the Spirit, explained that this moment had been foretold centuries earlier by the prophet Joel—a sign that a new era had dawned, the first day of the last days.
From that moment, the message of salvation began to spread to every nation and language. The Spirit now dwells within God’s people, empowering them to live in truth, proclaim the gospel boldly, and reflect Christ’s power to the world. Peter’s sermon boldly declared that the same Jesus rejected by many is both Lord and Christ—the risen King who will return in glory. Pentecost marked the beginning of the church age, an era where God’s grace is poured out freely and salvation is offered to all who believe.
Peter’s message continues to speak today: “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The coming of the Spirit reminds us that God’s promises are active, that judgment is real, and mercy is available now through Christ. This event is not just history; it shapes our present reality. The first day of the last days began then, and the clock of eternity continues to tick—inviting each of us to respond, believe, and live empowered by the Spirit in a world that still longs for light.
