Acts 14:1-18
When Paul and Barnabas entered Iconium, the power of the gospel began to stir hearts, yet it also provoked opposition. Acts 14:1–18 shows us that the truth of Christ always demands a response—some embrace it, others reject it, and some react with hostility. Despite threats and growing persecution, Paul and Barnabas remained steadfast, boldly proclaiming salvation and trusting God to confirm His Word through signs and wonders.
In Lystra, God performed a miraculous healing: a man crippled from birth stood and walked. What should have drawn glory to God instead led the crowd to mistake the apostles for gods. In grief and urgency, Paul and Barnabas tore their garments, reminding all that worship belongs to the living Creator alone. Their response illustrates a profound lesson: even blessings and public praise can become a spiritual snare if they shift our focus from God to ourselves.
This passage challenges believers today to live boldly in a world of unbelief, skepticism, and temptation. Our witness must remain anchored in the glory of God rather than human approval. When faced with resistance or flattery, will our hearts remain devoted to Christ alone? Paul and Barnabas model courage, humility, and unwavering dedication, reminding us that the gospel’s call requires both bold proclamation and pure worship.
As we reflect on this story, consider your own response to God’s work in your life. Do you seek recognition, or do you point others to Him? Are you willing to persevere when opposition arises, trusting that the same God who empowers and protects His servants is at work through your faithfulness?
