Genesis 16
When waiting feels endless and hope begins to fade, the heart grows restless for answers. Sarah knew that feeling well. God had promised her a child, yet the years slipped by in silence. In her weariness, she turned to her own understanding, urging Abraham to take her servant Hagar so that the promise might somehow come true. What began as a plan born of desperation soon unraveled into jealousy and sorrow, for the path of impatience often leads us into places only grace can redeem.
As Hagar fled into the wilderness, carrying the weight of rejection and despair, she met the One who sees what no one else can. Beneath the blazing sun and endless sand, the angel of the Lord called her by name—a tender reminder that even in our running, God’s compassion finds us. He spoke hope over her future, promising that her son, Ishmael, too would grow into a great nation. In awe and gratitude, Hagar declared the name of God as El Roi—“the God who sees me.”
This story speaks to every heart that wrestles between faith and fear, between waiting on God and taking matters into our own hands. It reminds us that His promises are never delayed by accident, nor forgotten in silence. Even when our choices lead us into wilderness places, the Lord remains near—seeing, hearing, and redeeming. His faithfulness endures, even when ours falters, and His grace continues to write hope into the hardest chapters of our lives.
